HELENA MARÍA VIRAMONTES is also the author of two novels, Under the Feet of Jesus (Plume, 1995) and Their Dogs Came with Them (Washington Square Press, 2008). The recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the John Dos Passos Award for Literature and an Honorary Doctorate from St. Mary’s College, Viramontes was most recently named a 2007 United States Artists Ford Fellow. Currently a professor of Creative Writing at Cornell University, she is a frequent reader and lecturer in the U.S. and internationally.
