Permissions Guidelines


All material published by Arte Público Press is protected under copyright law. Written permission is required from the publisher if you wish to reproduce any of our material.

All requests directed to Arte Público Press must be made in writing, either through our online form or by mail or fax.

It is not our policy to grant permissions verbally, and no requests are handled on a rush basis. Please leave at least five weeks between your date of request and your date of publication- do not reproduce our material without written permission.


Requesting Permission

Please take the time to examine the book, including the copyright and acknowledgement page(s).

  • If the book is an Arte Público Press book and we have not obtained permission from a third party, submit a request to our offices as instructed below.
  • If the material you are seeking to reprint appears in an Arte Público Press anthology or collection, please determine whether or not Arte Público Press holds the copyright to that particular piece before making a request. If we do not hold the copyright, we cannot grant your request. Please refer all requests to the copyright holder specified.

Please provide Arte Público Press with the following information:

  • The title, author, and copyright year of the book from which you would like to reprint
  • The title and length of the piece you wish to reprint
  • The publisher, title, publication date, price, print run, and format (print, electronic, CD-ROM) of your upcoming publication
  • The territories and languages of distribution for your publication, along with term of license and number of editions if relevant


If you wish to photocopy material, please provide the book title, page numbers or name of the piece, the intended use, and the number of copies you intend to make.
