Sarah Cortez comes to one of her alma maters, the University of Houston-Downtown, to discuss "Law and Order & Literature: Why Cops Should Spend Time with the Humanities". The presentation will be followed by a book-signing hosted by Murder by the Book.
This event is free and open to the public.
SARAH CORTEZ is a poet, educator, and law enforcement officer. She is the author of a poetry collection, How to Undress a Cop (Arte Público Press, 2000), which won the PEN Texas Literary Award in Poetry. She also edited Windows into My World: Latino Youth Write Their Lives (Piñata Books, 2007), winner of a 2008 Skipping Stones Honor Award. Her most recent work is Hit List: The Best of Latino Mystery (Arte Público Press, 2009). She lives and works in Houston, Texas.
