Guava

Guava is considered a medicinal plant because its leaves have important healing properties for gastrointestinal diseases. According to the September issue of Men’s Health, guavas are considered one of the 10 super foods most forgotten by consumers. In the United States, it grows in the states of Florida, off the coasts of California, and Hawaii. Among the nutrients contained is this fruit are vitamin C, iron, potassium, calcium, folate and carotenoids. Fall and winter are the best seasons to eat guava, since the rind contains five times the dose of vitamin C compared to an orange. Vitamin C aids the body in protecting itself against respiratory diseases, which are common during winter months. Guava is rich in lycopene, an antioxidant, which helps fight prostate cancer. Also, a recent study finds that women who consume high quantities of vitamin C have fewer wrinkles because this nutrient is one of the best collagen producers. Finally, it  is thought that by consuming this fiber rich fruit, a person’s cholesterol levels could actually decrease.
