Swiss chard is a vegetable that is mostly used in Mediterranean and South American cuisines. According to the Web page Fruits & Veggies Matter, cooked Swiss chard has about 15 calories per half cup, 7% dietary fiber, and 2 grams of protein. Even when cooked, it can provide up to 110% of the recommended daily value of vitamin A, 25% vitamin C, 6% calcium, and 10% iron. Vitamin A is known for its benefits to the skin, tissues, and considered important for maintaining good eye care. Chard also contains vitamin C which has antioxidant properties and can assist in improving the immune system. Here is a quick and easy recipe you can use as a side dish for your fish entrées. First, cut mid-sized squares of tomato and dice up a bit of onion. Put both food items into a pan and sautée them in some olive oil. Add the cut chard. Cover and cook for a few minutes. Then simply enjoy your dish.
