The DASH Eating Plan

Lowering your blood pressure with DASH

The Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) is an eating plan developed by scientists supported by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI). The research demonstrated that lowering the consumption of saturated fat and increasing the amount of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, white meats and nuts a person’s daily diet, lowers blood pressure. This eating plan contemplates the reduction of red meats, sweets, and sugar added products. Consuming daily required amounts of potassium, calcium, magnesium, protein and fiber helps to reduce the amounts of LDL (bad cholesterol) in one’s blood. This plan creates an opportunity for long-term healthy lifestyle changes. The DASH is a great alternative for those wanting to lower their high blood pressure and/or want to start a healthy lifestyle.
