Media-Smart Youth: Eat, Think, and Be Active!
An organization created by the NICHD to reinforce critical thinking about media in children
Experts have found that the number of children and adolescents overweight and obese is alarmingly increasing in the last years. For this reason, the congress of the United States asked four agencies which include the Department of Health and Human Services to develop educative programs for children and adolescents to reinforce positive behaviors like exercise and smart eating habits. This department in conjunction with the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development part of the National Institutes of Health developed the program Media-Smart Youth: Eat, Think, and Be Active! This program reinforces critical thinking in children about media. To carry out its objectives, these organizations created a curriculum which has been revised and proved for different youth organizations to verify its effectiveness. This lesson plans are available and free for the public and can be downloaded in the program's Web page.
